was “Always Dreaming”

Image may contain: 2 people, people smiling, hatJulep is defined as a sweet flavored drink made from a sugar syrup, sometimes containing alcohol or medication.

Mint Julep is the drink associated with the Kentucky Derby. Nowhere is the bourbon mentioned. It sounds like a sweet minty drink.  However, this one is mixed with alcohol.

Is anyone else amazed that an event that lasts 2 minutes is celebrated with hats and special drinks? I picked Irish War Cry, but he didn’t make the top 3.  The truth is, Always Dreaming, is a perfect name for the winner of this race. Everyone there is dreaming of winning.

I can’t say that I am a big horse racing fan, but I do have a new respect for the mint julep.

It was a very tasty cold beverage to sip along on while I watched the race this year on television. Did you know that it’s pretty good- even without the mint?:) I was surprised that this is touted as a “southern” drink. Mint Julep is defined as a drink consisting of bourbon, crushed ice, sugar, and fresh mint, typically served in a tall frosted glass and associated chiefly with the southern US.

The thing that amazed me is how many little girls and older women were hosting “Derby” parties at home with tea and crumpets, toy horses, big hats and fancy dresses.
