Limitless

ego“Don’t limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.”

Do you have self enforced limits? It is probably good to have limits on calories or drinks. It is not good to limit your talents and abilities.

What is limitless? Air, sky, oceans? Thoughts?

A movie, Limitless ? The perfect version of ourselves?

Have you ever heard someone say, “My dream has become a nightmare”? My dream job, my dream house, my dream – whatever? I had no idea, but Martin Luther King actually said this after making the “I have a Dream” speech. Imagine that? His dream became a nightmare?

I think his experience is my experience- on different levels and with different circumstances.  I imagined all kinds of wonderful things- a house on the water, with a million dollar view, built of solid materials- cedar shake, hardwood floors, expensive custom stone work and cabinetry- ahh- just the kind of place I would like. What happens? Someone else buys it and starts the process of changing all the things I liked about it. It is not the same dream. It’s beginning to look like I am living in a nightmare, watching the dream disintegrate, bit by bit. What can you do when what you dreamed starts reflecting the ugly side of reality?dream Look at things with fresh perspective and in a more realistic way?

Good questions. According to the great thinkers- we are limited by our imaginations. What if your imagination gets you into situations where what you imagined is just close to what the reality turns into? What if your imagination gets you in proximity, but not all the way? Is that a hit? Is that a win/win? Or is that a case of letting your imagination run wild or get away with you? I don’t know. Could just 5 minutes by the ocean make all the difference?

Limitless? Do we want to be limitless? Children need boundaries to feel safe. The universe needs limits based on physical laws to maintain it’s form and function. Do we want to set some limits on ourselves or just continue with this limitless thinking?

Perhaps, its a balancing act? Someone asked me today, ” Do you think we will have time to meet these deadlines, based on the Workgroup schedule and all that needs to be done”? This person wanted to say that we should take a more thoughtful and long-term approach to something that everyone knew going in was a time sensitive project and they had 4-6 weeks to come to a set of recommendations. She wanted to push the whole project out by 6-12 months. I told her quite firmly, “they have two assignments, they can get them done in the time frame or they can take a whole year to do the same thing”. I think we should stay on target and expect them to produce. Giving more time to think on the same set of issues will not make any difference in the end results. So, I believe in limits. They offer structure for group activities.horse diaries

I do not believe in self imposed limits on our talent and the innate creative force that resides within each of us. Given the right motivations and opportunities, mindsets and talents, there is no limit to what we can see, do and become.

So, whether we immerse ourselves in imaginary tales to set a new dream into motion, or we are the writers of these tales who reach a dream of our own in publication- let us remain limitless!
