Today, the radio announcer stated, “Well, a wonderful opportunity to become a destination for additional travel and tourism just got shooed away. Marijuana will not be available here- so no more sailing and hedonism…..wait, we already have hedonism.”

Hedonism? Defined as: the pursuit of pleasure; sensual self- indulgence; the ethical theory that pleasure (in the sense of the satisfaction of desires) is the highest good and proper aim of human life. If you look on google, hedonism is the name of an adult resort renowned for nudism and accompanying entertainments.

How did medical marijuana, sailing and hedonism get linked?

Obviously, there are two schools of thought here. When one state first approved medical marijuana in 2013, only teaching hospitals were permitted to distribute it. But no hospitals were willing to participate. The states with experience in this “field”, no pun intended, are limited. One state’s laws read: To ensure that seriously ill (state residents) have the right to obtain and use marijuana for medical purposes where that medical use is deemed appropriate and has been recommended by a physician who has determined that the person’s health would benefit from the use of marijuana in the treatment of cancer, anorexia, AIDS, chronic pain, spasticity, glaucoma, arthritis, migraine, or any other illness for which marijuana provides relief. 

Well, that says it all. Did you read any other illness for which marijuana provides relief?

That could cover most any condition that a person presents to their physician’s office requesting a medical consult. One of the questions on our assessment forms is “What have you used in the past for this condition and what has helped?” I don’t know why we even call it medical marijuana. Why not just sell it along with alcoholic beverages and manage it through the same distribution system? Why drag the medical community into this? I know, I know. We want someone to be the gatekeeper. It is the slow track to the final full legalization for anyone to use it in whatever way they seek “relief”.

I am still struggling with how hedonism was part of the radio segment reporting how one state’s county council did not allow medical marijuana to be grown or dispensed in their jurisdiction. And, then to laughingly say that we already had it because of the sailing?

Well, what do you know? I found the link. Sailing, heritage and hedonism- advertised by GlobTour Event Croatia.  And, then I found a sailing vessel registered in Canada named Hedonism, last charted near Grenada.

OK, I will give you the link between Sailing and Hedonism exists. How did MJ connect?

I found it. It was right there on the top of the news feed. On The Record, with Greta Van Sustern.  Dr. Ben Carson warned that the legalization of medical marijuana was a step in the direction of hedonism. We are removing all the barriers to hedonistic activity and then we are not allowed to even discuss it.  Now, I have to consider what my link with all of this is and why I am resisting all these connections. That’s for my personal reflection. You can decide for yourself, if you need to explore it further.
