over the edge

IMG_1968Am I the only one who starts a tub and gets distracted with another side task? I was looking forward to a nice hot bath and then, I let the dogs out , washed the dishes and started some laundry. This one almost went “over the edge”.  Those overflow valves are a lifesaver!

I had made a decision to stay at the cottage on Sunday. I had almost sent a written decision before the end of the month, even though I gave myself until 6/30 for the drop dead date.  That was my self-imposed deadline. I expected a new contract at work and a new lease on house to be signed by 6/30/15.

What pushed me “over the edge” or back from the edge of making a decision on the house? This morning, I woke up and looked out back. What do you think was out in the water, 50 ft from the private pier? Mooring ballA small sailboat on a mooring ball. It didn’t just appear. Someone seems to have made a great effort to park right there where my new chairs were going to be set up in privacy. No privacy now. The view is different- ok, but not what I had gotten used to. So, I fell back over the edge into pausing to think. Can this be done, legally? Can anyone just park in your backyard? That’s a surprise. It made me cross eyed! I don’t know this person or why or when they moved into the backyard. I called DNR ( Department of Natural Resources) and got an earful of information.  Guess what? The laws were written in the 70s regarding these mooring balls and boater rights. They have the right to plop down anywhere there is NOT a channel marker, oyster reef and they are NOT banging into anyone’s pier or blocking their egress. They also have the right to the mean high water mark, ie: to walk up onto your beach to a certain water mark and do anything they like.  It has me sitting on the fence as far as whether I want to be here. How can one little thing like this push me over the edge on a decision? Good question.

IMG_1978Yes, the same thing happened to me on Saturday night. I went to a new restaurant and the menu described this weird sauce made of unappetizing ingredients, like sows belly, so I skipped the filet mignon. See those little puddles? I didn’t know it was going to be discreetly contained and I could have avoided contact.  My friend pushed through and ordered it. She was pleasantly surprised.

Is overboard and over the edge similar? We had a party this past weekend. Do you know why I loved this card best? Because it’s a wave…………get it? It’s a water scene. It reminds me of the synchronized water skiiers that I saw perform at Cypress Gardens in Florida, 30 years ago. The person didn’t know I would associate these two pleasant things with the card, but it sent me “over the edge”. It was a very pleasant get together.
