Vantage Point

Vantage point-a position or place that affords a wide or advantageous perspective;viewpoint.  We can definitely see a lot from the 32nd floor of a hotel.

It is not so easy to see what is right in front of you or at your level or around a dark corner.

Heard the old expression, “Can’t see the forest for the trees?”  It means that if you look at things one at a time, you might not realize that a branch of separate “trees” go together to make a “forest”.   When you are too close to a situation you need to step back to get a better perspective. If you are focused on the many details ( trees), you may have failed to see the overall view ( Forest), impression or key point.

I would like to know how to position myself to have the best vantage point.  It would be wonderful to have the “Hindsight is 20/20” advantage ahead of time. I know we “see through a glass darkly, but one day we will see clearly.”  To see “through a glass”a mirror“darkly” is to have an obscure or imperfect vision of reality. The expression comes from the writings of the Apostle Paul; he explains that we do not now see clearly, but at the end of time, we will do so. ( Urban Dictionary)

This lack of a vantage point or clear view is causing me a lot of ambivalence. It is impossible to make a good decision when you want to do both things or clone yourself and resemble a cat with 9 lives. Where are these fountains of wisdom, when you need them? Is it possible to have a vantage point and lose it? Can we lose sight of what we know is right and get turned around in confusion? I think so.

It’s like that old Toby Keith Song- I wish I didn’t know now, what I didn’t know then. I wish I could start this whole thing over again. …….Turns out I knew what I was thinking…..

Do we really need a vantage point or do we need to look at what we do see and make the best choices we can with the information we have at hand? I think so. There is no better place to be than here and no better person to decide for yourself than you!
